While the iPhone 7 was received relatively well by the media and consumers alike, rumours about the revolutionary features of its successors are already making creating a buzz online.
Nomura analyst Jeffrey Kvaal mentioned that the next Apple smartphone could deliver record-breaking sales for the company. Given that the handset will be released in time for the iPhone’s 10th anniversary, Kvaal said the iPhone 8 will be offered to “a subscriber base that is 45-50% larger than the subscriber base the iPhone 6 launched into.”
So what can we really expect from the upcoming Apple handset? Read on below as we unravel the top iPhone 8 rumours people are talking about online.
1. Edge-to-edge screen
One of the most eagerly anticipated features on the iPhone is the possible edge-to-edge screen on the handset, which consumers have been asking for many years now. Various concepts were rumoured online as to how the next Apple smartphone will look if it features a more “fuller” display. This specific design was highlighted by International Business Times which shows how the iPhone 8 could look if it remains the same size but with a much larger screen. If this is true, it will signify Apple’s intent on providing its users with an edge-to-edge screen moving forward.
2. ‘Real’ waterproof features
Although the tech giant made the iPhone 7 splash proof (IP67), they aren’t set to stop there. According to rumours, the iPhone 8 will feature an IP68 certified water- and dust-proof resistance and will be able to endure being submerged in water up to 1.5 metres for as long as 30 minutes.
3. A11 chipset
4. AR device compatible
Apple CEO Tim Cook already dismissed the rumours that they are secretly developing a virtual reality device and mentioned in one of his recent interviews that, “augmented reality is the larger of the two.” The company has acquired a handful of AR specialised startups in the past, which can help them in developing the necessary features for the new iPhone (and a head-mounted display, too). ComputerWorld suggest the iPhone 8 will be AR-ready with a new and improved face recognition feature adding an extra new layer of security. However it’s unsure whether they will take out the fingerprint scanner in replace of the new biometric sensor, but it’s probable that Apple has learnt from the failed face recognition tech launched by Google.
5. Fast and wireless charging
Famed tech leaker Sonny Dickson revealed that the next iPhone will sport a new ‘Tristar 3, Hydra chip’ which will mean the device will charge faster. Also, some industry experts foresee that Apple will finally adopt wireless charging technology on the iPhone 8. After all, they have already introduced the wireless EarPods to the market. So, does this mean they will remove the charging port, too, to foster the wireless charging technology? Nothing has been confirmed yet, but these two technologies can certainly make the iPhone 8 more AR and VR-friendly.
